About Us

We are proudly Australian made and owned.

We have an eye for quality and detail. Every blade we touch, whether manufacturing, maintaining, or restoring, is treated with the highest care.

We run education workshops, Service and supply restaurants, custom make knives for cooking, camping, and work environments, as well as make our own leather products.

Our Team

Ajax Fitton Bladesmith

Ajax

The passion began with a pocket knife on his Grandfathers farm, he then found a love for straight razors in his teens. He made his first knife in high school metal working class.

His formative blade manufacturing experience came from making hairdressing scissors on a large scale, while experimenting with knives in his spare time. Having worked on over 40,000 blades over a 10 year career, he has developed a keen eye for the weight, geometry, and materials that give a blade peak performance.

After moving away from hairdressing scissors, Ajax started designing and making custom kitchen knives as a hobby. As demand grew, his dream of large scale manufacturing quality hand made blades has become a reality that has only further fuelled his passion.

Tash

Being the driving force in a business isn’t an easy task, but Tash takes the challenge head on.
Prior to working at Freehand she worked in an advisory role to countless businesses around Bayside and the Peninsula.

Tash is our business liaison, marketing extraordinaire, and timeline manager. She makes sure production stays on track and schedules are kept; she spends time in the workshop working on assembly, and is often the first point of contact for people getting in touch with the business.

On top of all this, Tash is also in charge of the leatherworking side of the business. She has completed a number of large scale projects, and she loves solving interesting problems in aesthetically pleasing ways.
